Highliner is a project created by Brandon Pellatt and supported by core members: Mark Wylie on guitar and Lyam Morrison on bass. Encapsulating a broad range of musical styles in the debut EP “Split”, Highliner aims to utilize different sonic palettes to portray different moods and emotions. Having a broad range of sounds means that there needs to be a broad range of musicians and instruments! During the COVID lockdowns, Brandon became adept with the digital audio workstation (DAW) Logic Pro and began creating demos using virtual instruments such as synthesizers, orchestral instruments such as violin, cello, bass, horns, etc, and also trying his hand at guitar, bass, and vocals. This vast range of instruments, both virtual and physical, provided an infinite amount of possibilities. After creating many songs in this time, 4 were narrowed down and expanded upon with the help of Mark, Lyam, and many other musicians. The music gained a new life and transformed into what is now the “Split” EP. The help of external musicians took the music in new directions as each player had their own suggestions, styles, tips, and elements that they added to the music. Symbolically, the collaboration process acted as an emergence from the pandemic and shone a light onto the great future that awaits.

 

A follow up album is planned and aims to do everything the first EP did but expanded! More genres, players, emotions, and stories told. It is something that Brandon hopes will bring the musical community and general public closer together and act as an introductory tool for those who want to expand their musical horizons.
